Become a member of the Federation

Why become a member ?

By becoming a member, you get access to all the services provided by the Federation (getting news from the Federation, getting a ranking, possibility to play Go tournaments, teaching courses, etc.) and moreover you contribute also to the development of Go (material, advertising, organisation of activities...). Last but not least, it is possible to buy a goban and/or a stones set at a reduced price (via your club).

How become a member ?

You simply become a member of the Federation if you're also a member of an affiliated Belgian Go club.
You need to pay the membership fee of the Federation + the membership fees of the local club (if any) and get registered.
Please ask your club president.

Membership fee amount

The go club asks for a membership fee, of which a part is your membership fee for the Belgian Go Federation, the other part being a specific fee for the club (varying from one club to another, between 0€ to 10€, usually around 5 €).
Each year, the amount of the membership fee is decided at the Annual General Meeting.

Since 2026, the membership fee to become member of the Belgian Go Federation (from 01/01 to 31/12) is:
25 € normal membership fee
40 € for "solidarity" fee (note: no extra rights, this just helps the Federation to maintain its activity at low costs)
15 € for children, students, unemployed and people with disabilities
10 € if you register for the first time after 01/10 (for the last 3 months of the year thus)

Note: message to the club captains: please, avoid to send any other amount than 25/40/15/10 without a clear description of what it means.

It is possible to become a member of the Federation while not being a member of a Belgian go club. Then you have to pay the membership fee as mentioned above + a small Federal "virtual club" fee of 10 € onto the BGF account IBAN : BE24-7755-9621-2238 BIC (SWIFT code): GKCCBEBB.

- willing to participate as volunteer
- interested in joining the board
everyone interested to participate in the organization of the Belgium Go Federation activities is welcome !

Become a volunteer at the Federation

The Belgian Go Federation is an amateur and friendly association that is always searching for volunteers in many different areas:

- Organization of tournaments: room reservation, follow-up, refereeing
- Promotion of Go, presentation in festivals or schools...
- Infographics, Internet communication or editing tasks
- Translation Dutch/English/French
- Administrative tasks
- Pedagogy, Go teaching
- IT development, maintenance of Internet site
- Transportation, logistic and stock management
- Accounting

...

Do you have a couple of hours per week (or more) free ? Do you feel you can handle some of these tasks ?
To help the Federation, you don't need to be a Go expert: the main qualifications are enthusiasm, the ability to communicate and to perform the tasks you have chosen to handle.

Please send an email to the Federation board (board@gofed.be) and we will take care to find a place for you in our organization.
You are welcome :)

Reimbursement of promotional activities

For promotional activities, such as presenting Go to passersby in a festival, you can get 10 EUR per 1/2 day of promotion as volunteer. This payment purpose is to cover small expanses such as transport and food and encourage players to share Go.
But some requirements must be met:
- the event must be announced IN ADVANCE to the board, with some budget estimation (number of volunteers/day expected)
- the event must have a duration of minimum 1 day
- importantly, there must be an organizer that manages the event(s), ensure other volunteers are present and advance the cash to them, then ask Federation for reimbursement later
once or twice per year (the organizer should use a sheet with event date, names of volunteers, amount paid and volunteers signatures to prove the cash has been distributed).
The purpose of these rules are to ensure costs are under budget control and avoid everyone to spend inefficiently their time on management of micro-events.
