ResultsResults of the 26th Brussels TournamentThe 26th Brussels Tournament took place on Oct. 29th and 30th in Palais du Midi, Brussels. The Belgian Go Federation organized it and 77 participants took part. There were players from all around Europe, and even further: Belgium of course, but also Hungary, Germany, France, Great-Britain, Turkey, Finland, Slovakia, Poland, but also Brazil, China and Korea! It was an Ecup tournament level 4, in five rounds MacMahon. The last round was very exciting because six top players (Csaba Mero, Chen Lei, Vincent van Gelderen, François Gonze, Simon Billouet and Kang Kyoungnang) had already three wins and one loss; note the achievement of François, Belgian 4d, who managed to beat two 6d. Finally, after a very long and breath-taking game between Kang and Csaba, that was observed passionately by dozens of players in live but also about 150 players on KGS, Csaba managed a win by 3,5 and took the first place. It was a great tournament and we hope to have even more players next year. Congratulations to all! Links:
6th KPMC Final in KoreaLucas Neirynck represented Belgium at the 6th KPMC in Korea. He did a great result: he won against Uffe HOLMSGAARD RASMUSSEN (Denmark), Rory WALES (Ireland) and Ron Lavi (Israel), and lost against Satoshi HIRAOKA (Japan), Gabriel Benmergui (Argentina) and King Yau Anson NG (Hong Kong). He is the 24th player out of 70, which is a nice achievement regarding the rude competition.
Youth and Student Championship ResultsOnly four participants took part to this year Youth and Student Championship. It was argued that the age limit should have been at 29 instead of 20, because there is a European Student Championship where students can take part until 29. Next year we will take it into account. Given the small number of participants, we decided to make it a round-robin championship (meaning everyone plays against each other once).
It comes out that Ly Duc Khang is our Student Champion and Adrian Dzienisiuk is our Youth Champion.
2nd Pandanet European Team Championship Round 1 Belgium - UKIt was our first round for this new season, and we fought proudly, though the opponent was much stronger on paper. Congratulation to the team! Find the games on the website.
Ghent Go TournamentThe Ghent tournament is finished. We had a nice group of about 23 players. There were only 2 dan-level players, but we did have a very nice and consistent group of players between 10 and 15 kyu, making it a very rewarding tournament for beginning players. The tournament was -of course- free, but the players were very generous in their donations, so we had nice prizes for the winner Kwinten Missiaen and numbers 2 and 3, Bram Vandenbon and Dominique Versyck respectively.
Belgian Rengo ChampionshipThe Belgian Rengo Championship took place last week in Brussels. There were 10 players (5 pairs). The first round end up with the outstanding victory of the 4k&11k pair against the 2d² pair. The final winners:
Congratulation to the winners, thank you all for participating and see you again in good shape next year!!
Belgian Blitz ChampionshipVoor de tweede keer ging het Blitz kampioenschap door in Leuven. Om half twee verzamelden we allemaal in Café Amedee, om uit te maken wie de beste Blitz speler is in België. 1st Pandanet European National Team Championship: results of the 9th roundThe last round of the first Pandanet Team Championship was played on Tuesday 17th May. It was crucial for Belgium to score at least one point against Croatia: if we had lost this one we would be dropped to league C for next year. But our players did quite well as we managed to draw. Please find the games on the website.
Many thanks to all players. I hope we can do it again next year. It wasn't easy but I'm really proud such a small country could stay in the B league.
1st Pandanet European National Team Championship: results of the 8th roundBelgium lost severely against Austria (0-4). No wonder: they were stronger on paper anyway. Now remains the last round to play. The teams ending 9th and 10th will to be demoted in 3rd division. Belgium is 8th, just one point ahead of Croatia...against which we will play in this last round in May ! Suspens ! (a draw would be enough). Belgium Austria Score 0-4
1st Pandanet European National Team Championship: results of the 7th roundThis round was played on Sunday 27th March at 8:00pm. We scored three wins against Spain, which is quite a nice result. The games should be online soon on the official website.
