Andreii Kravets, European champion 2023

The European Championship is tradionally organized during the European Go Congress (this year in Leipzig).

The 32 best European players play a knock-out tournament (with 2 "lives", till the quarters of finals) to determine the European champion.

In a 5-hour final against Ali Jabarin 2p, Andrii Kravets 1p emerged victorious.

Andrii is Ukranian, 32 years old from Ukraine and playing as a pro since 2017.

In the small final, Ashe (ex-Oscar) Vázquez 7d beat Fredrik Blomback 7d to take the bronze-medal position.

Note that "our" Lucas Neirynck lost in the 1st round (1/16 of finals) of the main section to Csaba Merö (HU, 6-d) and then in the 1st round of the loser's section to Martin Ruzicka (CZ, 5-d).:-(

The open European championship has been overwhelmingly dominated by Asiatic players, who trusted the 8 first places...with the exception of Dominik Boviz who succeeded in beating among others Kim Daehwi, the silver medail and ended on the podium

There were 671 participants, among whom 5 Belgian:
Bram Westhovens (7-k) got 9 out of 10 in the main tournament and ....5/5 in the WE tournament (thus a splendid 14/15 !) . Congratulations to him !
Yvan Nollet (5-k) got 2/3 in the main tournament and 2/2 in the WE tournament
Frank Segers (4-k) got 1/5 in the main tournament (and did not participate in the WE tournament)
Lucas Levrouw (10-k) got 2/5 in the main tournament and in the WE tournament
Lucas Neirynck (6-d) got 2/5 in the main and in the WE tournament

Coming soon (11+12/03): preliminaries Belgian championship

On WE 11+12/03 the preliminaries rounds of the Belgium Championship will be organised.
This tournament is reserved to our BGF members but it is free of charge.
A particularity: it is played without handicap.
The best 4 players will join the already 4 qualified players (the best 4 in last year championship) in the final rounds in June.

Please come and play !
The tournament starts Saturday at 10 AM exactly !

2023 European Congress will be held in Leipzig (Germany)

The 65th EGC in 2023 will be organised from July 22 – August 5, 2023 in Markkleeberg near Leipzig (Germany).
You can already register on the EGC 2023 website and enjoy the early bird fee.

The European Go Congress is an annual event held by the European Go Federation for go players of all levels. The central event is the European Go Championship held during the Congress. The two-week championship will be accompanied by numerous other tournaments, workshops and evening events.

Thanks to the DGoB (German Go Federation) for proposing to host the annual Congress at short notice, due to the war in Ukraine, where it was originally planned to be held.

We willen het Belgisch kampioenschap pair go, waarvan de laatste editie dateert uit 2011 nieuw leven inblazen!
Dit is een toernooi waarin teams van 2 spelers het tegen elkaar opnemen. Ditmaal wordt het een “rengo” toernooi (in de plaats van “pair go”), wat betekent dat teams niet noodzakelijk uit gemengde (1 man & 1 vrouw) paren moeten bestaan (wat betreft kwalificatie voor internationale competities komen echter enkel gemengde paren in aanmerking).

Round-robin tournament (every pair plays every pair)
1 hour main time + 3 times 30s Japanese Byo-yomi
Handicap -2 (based on the average rating of the players in a pair)

Tie-breaker rules: Result mutual game, then average registration strength.
